Every time I see something like this in the news a tear comes to my eye. Another marijuana grow op busted. This time busting 40,000 innocent and non violent plants, (the RCMP is going to have quite the party tonight I bet), and leaving a city full of people dry for the next coming weeks. It always shocks me how much we spend capturing so many ‘evil’ plants a year and killing so many more peoples buzz, at a cost of $500 million at year on enforcement (2001 Auditors General Report), plus the 57 million dollars a year it took prosecuting those gardeners or garden sellers, couldn’t that money have been better spent, say on our ailing Health Care system?
With all the reports on the effects of marijuana not being dangerous or addictive you would think that with the evidence in front of them the government would just decriminalize or legalize the plant. Sometimes I think we’re on the road to legalization when I hear reports on how the Canadian Government is going to start stocking up pharmacies with weed for the folks that have medical permission but then another nursery gets busted. They say it’s for our own safety but did anyone notice that since the cops started their summer of busting grow ups at a record breaking rate, that we’ve also experienced a summer of gun violence we’ve never had to endure before? Anyone see the connection? When pot was around everyone was to stoned to shoot but now that it’s gone the pistols are a blazing!

Want to cut government waste? Stop busting people for smoking a harmless plant, or buying a harmless plant, or growing some harmless seeds. Want to stem violence? Start up a pot for guns program. When was the last time you wanted to fight while stoned? I can barely reach the remote when I’m stoned, much less pack a pistol, go out of my way and shoot someone.
Leave the stoners alone I say. Trow the drunk drivers in jail the trow away the key.
